Vestiges of Industry
architectural conversation of industrial heritage in Czech Republic, 2000 – 2005

Opening of Experimental phase of an Art Center
Society TOTALDOBZE and the artists residing in VEF territory have opened for creative activity one more building block, another part of the former factory. You are invited to participate in the art and culture events that are on the agenda of the emerging ART CENTRE.
On June 7, after an initial, preparatory, stage, the Art Centre, will move further, into the second, experimental phase. During it, until mid-January, 2011, there will be an on-going search for the ideal model for using the space. Various types of creative activity and diverse creative practice, ranging from exhibitions, concerts and performances to lectures, symposia and international art residencies will be tested and implemented. The experimental character of this phase foresees both long-term projects and spontaneous activities. They will be carried out both by the members of the local VEF artist community, as well as artists and curators working outside. Predominantly, the Art Centre will function as a space for creative process, simultaneously offering exhibition possibilities in the new building’s exhibition space and other places in the VEF territory. Besides, there are plans to launch several public meeting points for art professionals and other people related to the field, or simply interested, such as a library, a cafe and an art-gallery-store with artwork and self-made objects.

Application for Swiss artists support from Prohelvetia to go to residency in Art center Totaldobze is closed now and we are waiting for results. The same is for Latvian artists who was able to apply for support from prohelvetia to go to one of residencies in Switzerland.

In Budapest Kaspars Lielgalvis made an agreement about artists exchange between Riga and Budapest with Borbala Szalai, representative from Hungarian Young Artists Association for a time period of 3 month during 2011. Details are still in progress

21-28/01/2010 After Switzerland artists Kaspars Lielgalvis and Katrīna Sauškina visited some Art places in Vienna and thanks to Hans Knoll (Knoll gallerie) met Zimmer Karin (deputy of Visual Arts, Architecture, Design, Fashion, Photography and Media Art departmanet) and Olga Okunev responsible for Artists residencies both from Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture and discussed about a possibility to support Austrian artists stay up to 3 month long in residency in Art Center Totaldobze during time period of 2011-2012. In Vienna there was a meeting also with representative from annual Art festival Soho in Ottakring in Vienna

Artists Kaspars Lielgalvis and Katrīna Sauškina joined international curators group (from Poland, Hungaria, Czech republic, India, Mozambique and South Africa) for Studio visit in Switzerland organized by Pro helvetia. During 4 days there were meetings with representatives from Pro helvetia in Zurich, art centers Rote fabrik in Zurich, Progr in Bern, Forde in Geneva and 23 artists in their studios in Zurich, Bern, Basel and Geneva.

Artists association non for profit organization Totaldobže which gather VEF and non-VEF rezidential artists and Holding Company VEF and have signed acontract where HC VEF gives one of 5 buildings they own to Totaldobže to organize and to run an Art Center there until at least 2017 for minimum rent.
